The Jackie Brown Fund

On May 26th 1998 Jackie Brown was rescued off the streets of downtown Los

Angeles. He was found with a badly broken leg, probably after being hit by a

car, a bad case of mange and undernourished.

After many visits to numerous vets, all wanting to amputate Jackie’s leg, we

found Dr. Scott Anderson of Animal Emergency Center who performed the

surgery on June 10th 1998 that saved Jackie’s leg.  We raised the money for

the surgery by having yard sales or just telling people Jackie’s story. The

outpour of compassion & support for Jackie Brown was amazing. Early on we

knew that he was a very, very special dog.

During the healing process, the bones in Jackie’s leg fused together in one

position, held by plates and screws.  You would have never known that Jackie

was in any pain or
discomfort. He would bounce back so quickly and had NO

idea that his leg was not functioning properly. Jackie endured so much in the

time he graced us. His tolerance for pain and discomfort was off the chart. His

sole purpose in his life was to unconditionally love and heal those around him!

He was fondly called nurse Jackie!

Whether you knew Jackie for a day or for 12 years, he made a huge impact on your life. He was involved in so many charitable activities, everyone knew him. He was acknowledged as the “Mayor of Main Street” in Santa Monica, the official shop dog at Helen’s Cycles, crew member for many cycling events and of course Nurse Jackie. He was a fixture of love in all of our lives!

On December 17th 2009 Jackie Brown was diagnosed with advanced stage

cancer. Not wanting to put Jackie through conventional treatment,

chemotherapy or radiation, we brought him to Dr. Palmquist of Centinela

Animal Hospital, for holistic treatment. Jackie rallied for 17 days but was

overwhelmed by the cancer. Jackie passed away on Saturday, January 2nd

2010.

In memory and honor of Jackie Brown, we have started a fund to help raise

money for other rescue dogs who need a chance for a better life, one like

Jackie had. With your support we can help change the lives of these dogs

that are in need of the love and healing that Jackie gave to so many of us!

Jackie Brown was the most amazing companion – he will always be my soul

mate!
